Stealing of the Boys and Calves by Brahma

Hare Krishna!!!

Dear Parents,
Thank you for bringing your kids to Sunday school.

This week,
PRAYERS: We offered our respects to Guru, Shri Krishna, Srimati Radharani and prayers before reading Srimad – Bhagavatam book.

SLOKA: Please revise all the Bhagavad-Gita sloka from
Chapter 1: verse 1
Chapter 3: verse 21
Chapter 9: verse 2
Chapter 9: Verse 14.
(Note: Please refer to the previous posts for the prayers and their translations.)
STORY TIME: We heard how Brahma seeing Lord Krsna kill the demon Aghasura, steals his gopa friends and
the calves and put them in magic sleep in a cave. He leaves for a moment and comes back to see what is Lord Krsna doing. To his confusion, he sees the same cowherd boys and the calves having lunch with Lord Krsna. To clarify who is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Krsna reveals that all the cowherd boys and the calves are his expansions. Then, Lord Brahma realizes his mistake and begs forgiveness from Lord Krsna.

Practical Application:
1. Never think Lord Krsna to be an ordinary demigod. Lord Krsna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead
2. Lord Krsna always protect his devotees.

Parents please read chapter 13 from Krsna book to your kids or click the following link for the http://krsnabook.com/ch13.html

Namapriya mataji taught us the value of co-operation with a moral story.

Once there was a very rich man with four sons. These four sons were always fighting with each other for dresses, books, toys, etc. They grew up fighting and once they were grown-ups, they went to different houses to live in and they never got along. Their father was so sad to see his sons always fighting but didn’t know how to bring them together.
When the father fell ill, he called his four sons to see him and he had a bundle of sticks tied together. When his first son came, the father asked him to break the bundle of sticks. The first son tried to break but he couldn’t. The father asked the second son to break the bundle of sticks, so the second son tried to break but he couldn’t. The father asked the third and the fourth son to do the same thing and both of them tried but they also couldn’t break. The father finally gave one stick to each and asked them to break. The four sons broke it very easily. Then the father said to his sons, that if we co-operate with each other, no one can harm us but if we always fight with other, other people can hurt us easily.
United we stand, divided we fall. Also, a family that prays together always stays together even in times of trouble.
Looking forward to seeing all of you in the next class.

King Indra’s Prayers

Hare Krishna!!!

Dear Parents,
Thank you for bringing your kids to Sunday school. We are so happy to see kids enthusiasm in singing the prayers and reciting slokas and listening to the story and answering the questions.

This week,
PRAYERS: We revised “narayanm namaskrityam” prayer that we sing before reading Srimad Bhagavatam and sang “he krsna” and “tapta kanchana” offering our prayers to Lord Krishna and Srimati Radharani.
(Note: Please refer to the previous posts for the prayers and their translations.)

SLOKA: We revised the Bhagavad-Gita slokas (chapter 9 : Verse 2) and sloka(Chapter 3: verse21)
(Note: Please refer to the previous posts for the prayers and their translations.)

STORY TIME: Namapriya Mataji taught us “GOD is everywhere” with a very nice story.

Once there was a Guru(teacher), who taught many things about God to his number of disciples(students). At the end of all his teachings, he wanted to test his disciples.

He called all his students to assemble and gave each one a mango and asked them to eat this mango where no one sees them. Every student went in different directions.

One disciple ate his mango behind the school, one went into forest to eat his mango, one climbed up a tree to eat, and others went into a cave, a well, dark room, trying to find a place where no one would see them. Once they ate the mango, they went back to their Teacher.

Of all the students, one student tried to find a secluded place to eat his mango but wherever he went, he was watched by someone. So, after 2 days, accepting his futile attempts, with the mango in his hand, he returned to his Guru very hungry.

His Guru asked the student, why he didn’t eat the mango. Then the student replied that he tried very hard to find a place where no one watched him but wherever he went, he felt God watching him.

Hearing this, Guru was joyful, for at least one of his students understood his teachings and congratulated him.
Practical Applications:
1. God created this universe and He is in every atom. So never forget God is everywhere.
2. God watches over everyone of us.

Indra begs Forgiveness
We heard the follow up of the story “Worshiping Govardhan Hill”.

We heard how King Indra realized his mistake, stopped the rain, came to Lord Krishna and talked about his pride, begged forgiveness and Surabhi cow from Goloka Vrindavan came to offer her milk for saving her descendant cows in Vrindavan, Indra and Surabhi cow bathed Lord Krishna with Ganges water and milk respectively. Lord being merciful forgave Indra and asked him to return to heavenly planets and never forget who the Supreme Lord is. After satisfying the
Lord, Indra went back to rule the heavenly planets.

Practical Applications:
1. We should not be proud and when someone points our mistakes, don’t get angry but be quiet and realize our mistakes.
2. If we make mistakes, feel sorry and say sorry.

Parents please read chapter 27 from Krsna book to your kids or click the following link for the chapter http://krsnabook.com/ch27.html

raja-vidya raja-guhyam
pavitram idam uttamam
pratyakṣāvagamam dharmyam
su-sukham kartum avyayam

TRANSLATION: This knowledge is the king of education, the most secret of all secrets. It is the purest knowledge, and because it gives direct perception of the self by realization, it is the perfection of religion. It is everlasting, and it is joyfully performed.

STORY TIME: Namapriya Mataji narrated the story of Kaliya, how the serpent Kaliya was poisoning the river Yamuna, causing distress to the cows and people of Vrindavan and how Lord Krishna protected his devotees and cows by subduing Kaliya.

Practical Applications:
1. Never cause problems to the devotees or talk bad about the devotees.
2. God protects those who always pray to Him.

Parents please read chapter 16 from Krsna book to your kids or click the following link for the chapter http://krsnabook.com/ch16.html

Mataji also taught the value of following the instructions of a bonafide(real) Guru and being in the association of devotees by telling the following story.

There was a weaver named Madhav. His wife, Lakshmi was God conscious, a very nice devotee of Lord Krishna. She regularly visited the temple, prayed to the Lord, chanted Lord's Holy name everyday but her husband Madhav was work conscious, always weaving to make money to support the family and never spent any time for praying to the Lord.

Lakshmi decided to get initiation from a real Guru and she requested her husband to come for the initiation ceremony but Madhav said that he needed to work and did not have any time to come to the temple.

Guru Maharaj asked Lakshmi where her husband was. Lakshmi replied that Madhav won't take any time to come to the temple. So, Guru thinking to help Madhav insisted Lakshmi to bring her husband to see him the next day. Lakshmi went back home and asked Madhav to visit Guru Maharaj for few minutes. Madhav said that he cannot spend any time away from weaving.

Next day, Lakshmi went and said to Guru Maharaj that Madhava won’t even take time for a visit and she couldn’t do anything. So, Guru Maharaja still wanting to help Madhav went to see Madhav and told Madhav “you don’t need to do anything, except before you start your work, look for a devotee with tilak on his forehead”. Madhav thought,” Wow", that this was such a simple instruction and he can follow regularly without wasting any time from weaving because a
devotee named Mukunda lived opposite to Madhav’s home who always wore tilak everyday to work.

So, following Maharaj’s instruction, everyday Madhav would wake up, finish his morning duties and start his weaving only after looking at the devotee Mukunda. This went on for months. However, one day, Madhav couldn’t find Mukunda and he went to look for Mukunda as it had became a habit to see the tilak marked devotee early in the morning everyday before he started his work. He asked everyone and started searching for Mukunda.

At the end of the day, someone pointed towards the direction Mukunda went and Madhav followed in that direction. Far from the cave, Madhav saw the devotee Mukunda standing in the cave with 2 pots. Madhav was very happy that he found Mukunda and ran to his home shouting “I saw, I saw”, and started his work atlast.

After a while, Mukunda came to Madhav’s home and talked to Lakshmi about the 2 pots of treasure of gold coins he had found in the cave. Mukunda gave 1 pot of treasure to Lakshmi and asked her and Madhav not to let the world know that he found treasures in the cave.

Finally, Madhav became wealthy simply by following the instructions of a true spiritual master. From that day on, Madhav always took time to pray to God before he started his work, went to temple regularly and thanked the Lord every day.

Practical Applications:
1. Pray to God, no matter how busy you are with your work or studies.
2. Go to temple regularly and thank the Lord for everything you have received.

Looking forward to seeing all of you in the next class.
